Hi, reader!
Today’s trivia (a 3-parter): Which country has the most islands? How many islands are there? And finally, what % of the islands are inhabited?
With that, welcome to the 111th newsletter! This one is all about Make.
A list.
There is a difference between things we make and things we manage.
Some things we can make:
Food for ourselves or others
Plans to see loved ones
Creations with wood
Letters to loved ones
Journal entries
Podcasts
Artwork
Puzzles
Videos
Some things we can manage:
Household chores
Work projects
To-do list
Calendar
Finances
People
Email
Bills
A thought.
I woke up last week with a long list of things I needed and wanted to do. I looked at the list and asked myself, where should I start? Then I remembered the saying:
Make Before You Manage
I looked at my list and found something that qualified as making, and did that first (I wrote a few newsletters, including this one).
Then, I moved onto the managing. I paid some bills, managed my inbox, fixed a door and organized my calendar for the week.
I am certain (because I’ve done it countless times) that if I began my day by managing, I would not have made. Had I not made first, my day would have been lost to managing.
Look - we all have things we have to manage. If we don’t manage them, we would have no savings, miss meetings and appointments, live in messy houses, have debt collectors at our doorsteps and be out of jobs.
BUT!
That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t make time to make!
Making is creation. Making is innovative and fun. Making something is our little gift to ourselves and our world.
Make first. Then manage.
What do you enjoy making? Can you make it before you start managing today?
A quote.
“The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul.”
Answer: Sweden has 267,500 islands. Only 984 of which are inhabited (0.37%).
Such a good thought. I could modify my "to do list" into two sections using this suggestion. Thank you!
