Hi, reader!
Today’s trivia: Name at least 1 of the top 3 best selling movie soundtracks of all time. Example: Lion King is #10 on the list at 15 million copies sold.
With that, welcome to the 118th newsletter! This one is all about Lies.
A story.
When my oldest son was 4, he lied to me for the first time.
It was rest time. 2pm or so. He had an old iPad in his room for one reason: to listen to books.
His door was completely shut, which was odd. So I knocked.
He took a moment and opened the door just a hair. I could only see 1 eye.
“Hey daddy”
“Hey buddy, what are you up to?”
“Ummm, nothing.”
“Can I come in?”
“Ummm, one minute.”
He shut the door.
A moment later he opened the door.
I walked in and asked him, “What are you up to?”
“Umm, just listening to a book.”
“Cool, can you show me?”
“Sure”
He sat on the floor in front of the blank screen and clicked the power button.
YouTube filled the screen.
He blurted out, “What! How did that get there?!?”
A thought.
The kid was 4 years old. It took all of me to not laugh in that moment.
I (barely) kept my composure since I knew this was a teaching moment.
I calmly encouraged him to tell me what he was really doing. After some coaxing, he admitted he was watching videos (I didn’t even know he knew what YouTube was, let alone how to access it).
We proceeded to have a long chat about what a lie is and how it hurts ourselves and others.
And why it is vitally important to always tell the truth.
I shared with him that I will never be mad at him for telling the truth. I may be disappointed, but I will never be mad at him.
And the same goes for his brothers, his friends and any other person he interacts with.
The truth is always the way.
How do you react when you hear the truth?
A quote.
“It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.”
