Hi, reader!
Today’s trivia: What is the only common vegetable that can only be purchased fresh, never frozen or canned?
With that, welcome to the 122nd newsletter! This one is all about Regrets.
A regret.
Bronnie Ware, a former hospice nurse, shares the top 5 regrets of those on their death bed:
Regret #1: “I wish I had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.”
Regret #2: “I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.”
Regret #3: “I wish I had the courage to express my feelings.”
Regret #4: “I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.”
Regret #5: “I wish I had let myself be happier.”
A thought.
I’m convinced that 1 of these 5 regrets resonates with you. Perhaps a few of them do. Heck, maybe all of them!
I don’t know which ones resonate with you, but I have unsolicited suggestions for each:
Regret #1: This was the most common regret of all so this suggestion will take some concentration. Ready? Ok. Imagine for a moment that you woke up in a world where you didn’t know anyone. Sit with it a moment. Really believe it. You have no expectations put on you by anyone or anything. Now, I need you to be ready to listen to yourself. Catch what you tell yourself right after you answer the following question. Ready? Here it is:
If you woke up in a world where you didn’t know anyone, what would you become?
What was your answer in your head? Whatever it was - what can you do this week to make whatever that thing is more of a reality?
Regret #2: What is one thing you can prioritize this week that is not work?
Make time for it right now on your calendar. Perhaps it’s your answer to #1…
Regret #3: What have you needed to say to someone in your life but haven’t yet? I imagine it has been stirring in you for a while.
Walk outside, call them today and tell them how you feel.
Regret #4: What friend have you not seen in the last 6 months that you would enjoy spending time with?
Reach out to them today, tell them you’re thinking about them and suggest a few specific times where you can grab a meal or chat.
Regret #5: Write down 3 things that you are grateful for.
If any of them involve another person, share it with them.
What’s stopping you from doing this right now?
A quote.
“It is not the things we do in life that we regret on our death bed. It is the things we do not.”
