Build with Clay #24: Friendship
A bi-weekly newsletter sparking personal and professional growth
Hi, reader! I started an Instagram account to share videos and thoughts outside of just the newsletter. You can follow me here. You should know by now that I love feedback, so message me on posts you’d like to see!
With that, welcome to the 24th newsletter! I was lucky to spend the past weekend with some dear friends, who inspired me to make this one is all about friendship.

10 Types of Odd Friendships You’re Probably Part of by Tim Urban
We typically make the majority of our life-long friends in the first 20 years of our lives. It takes a lot of time spent together to build up the experiences, memories and trust that can bond friends together for life. As a child, we have that time. As an adult, we typically don’t.
Given that most of our closest friends are from early in life (and you know, us humans change a little), an interesting exercise is to look to see where each of our friends falls in this graph.
If you find that a lot of your friendships are in the green - way to go! If you have some in the yellow and red, don’t fret. Reflect on those relationships and make the necessary changes to ensure your friendships are healthy and enjoyable.
How healthy and enjoyable are your friendships?

A lack of close friends is the sign of a troubled life. We get so much from our friendships:
Laughter
Love
Support
Joy
Belonging
To be clear, we don’t need to have 10 close friends; often 1 or 2 are enough. However; overworking, isolation and a lack of prioritization can contribute to losing close friendships.
Close friendships are hard work as they must be maintained and grown by both parties. The great news is the benefits of the relationships heavily outweigh the sacrifice.

This is something I have been thinking about so much! I also just had a great weekend with some girlfriends I’ve not spent dedicated time with in over 2 years. As an introvert I was surprised at how completely life giving the whole weekend was. I never needed any me time. I think the season of life with 2 small children has isolated me and I’m hoping that season is behind me!
