How You Make Decisions Says a Lot About How Happy You Are by Elizabeth Bernstein
There are 2 categories of decision makers:
Maximizers - those who weigh all options no matter how long it takes to get to the best decision
Satisficers - those who prioritize making a quick decision over finding the best decision
Who do you think is happier? The one who spent time and made the best decision? Or the one who made a quick decision that was "good enough"?
Answer: Satisficers
A thought.
At what point do you know you have enough information to make a decision?
The challenge is, now more than ever, we have access to unlimited information right at our fingertips.
For a maximizer, this means spending a lot of time and energy attempting to soak the information up.
The result: on average, you’ll make the better decision. However, there’s an opportunity cost. The time and energy you spent could have been applied to other priorities.
For a satisficer, this means spending the least amount of time and energy to get enough information to make a decision that’s good enough.
The result: on average, you’ll make the worse decision. However, the time and energy you saved can now be applied to other priorities.
Which one are you?
A quote.
“You cannot make progress without making decisions.”
- Jim Rohn
