A listen (or read).
The Liberation of Cosmic Insignificance Therapy by Oliver Burkeman
This is a chapter pulled from Oliver Burkeman’s book, Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals. I listened to it 3 times on 1x speed - which, if you know me, is a heck of an endorsement as I typically listen to podcasts on 2x!
The chapter is about 2 topics.
The Great Pause - the pandemic forced us all to pause our routines and provided space for many to think about what we truly wanted to prioritize in our life.
Cosmic Insignificance - in the grand scheme of the universe, we are not that important. This can be simultaneously terrifying and liberating.
A thought.
What priorities shifted for you during the “Great Pause”?
For me, it was realizing the amount of time I was wasting and not spending it on the things I truly wanted to spend time on. I was doing things out of routine, not out of true desire. My daily actions were misaligned with my true priorities.
Being snapped out of my routine eventually unearthed what I truly wanted to spend my time on: being there for and with others.
As the pandemic ebbs and flows and the world continues to speed up to its previous pace - I am hopeful that we will not forget what the “Great Pause” unearthed. That we won’t slide back into our old routines and forget what we learned about ourselves.
A quote.
“All that is important comes in quietness and waiting.”
