Hi, reader. A few months ago we had to put down our dog, Ellie. She was 10 years old and by all accounts, was one of the kindest, most gentle dogs you’d ever encounter. For those who have loved and then lost a pet - you know the pain. The absence. The gratitude of past moments.
This newsletter is in honor of her, so welcome to the 38th newsletter. This one is all about dogs.
A watch.
ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt on Dogs
Consider this your warning. This one is emotional. A reader sent this and my response after watching the 5 minute video was: “I just accomplished Jim Valvano’s 3 things watching that”.
I thought.
I laughed.
I cried.
A thought.
We talk about wanting to be present. Be in the Now.
You know who’s always in the Now? Dogs!
They aren’t thinking about tomorrow’s meal. Or yesterday’s walk.
They are thinking about what’s right in front of them - the human they love unconditionally. And maybe a squirrel in the backyard.
They are forever at the ready for snuggles, walks, ball toss and car rides with their heads sticking out of the window.
Then, it all goes away in a snap.
But for those who have loved and lost a dog, you know. The trade-off is worth it 100% of the time.
If you have one, go give your dog a big hug for me.
A quote.
“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.”
If this newsletter left you feeling a little down remembering dogs you’ve lost, here’s a video of some cute puppies being silly to bring you some joy.
Do you enjoy this newsletter? The best compliment you can give is to share it with a friend, coworker or loved one.

OK, you made my eyes leak. "The Art of Racing in the Rain" is a good book to read after the memory fades a little. I hope Ellie is playing with our Grace now.
