A read.
In the Company of Women by Grace Bonney
This book brings together thoughts and advice from women across the world.
Hidden among the many great thoughts is this one:
“Busy is a decision. We do the things we want to do, period. If we say we are too busy, it is just shorthand for the thing being “not important enough” or “not a priority”. Busy is not a badge. You don’t find the time to make things, you make the time to do things.” - Debbie Millman
A thought.
“When I look back on my life, I’m really grateful for so many things. I was able to see my son play a few of his high school soccer games. I even made it to my daughter’s art show once. They are both so talented! What I’m really proud of is how we were able to go on vacations to wonderful places around the world. No matter where we were, I was always able to respond to emails quickly and carve out time each day to make sure I continued my work projects (so I didn’t lose time!). Not to mention, countless times I was told that I was the most responsive person they knew to emails and calls, no matter the time of night - even weekends! Oh the weekends! The weekends were especially lovely because I could really get a lot of tasks done while my family was away enjoying their hobbies. I simply really enjoyed that I was so busy all the time.”
- Said no one on their deathbed
What do you want to say on your deathbed?
How many times have you been asked: “How are you?” and your response is: “I’m good, just busy.”?
Today, being busy is a sign of wealth. If we are busy - then we are doing something right! We are successful!
But are we?
Or are we just trying to keep up appearances? I mean, everyone else is busy, so shouldn’t I be busy, too?
How can you slow down and allow your life to come into focus?
A quote.
“It’s possible to be busy, very busy, without being very effective”
