Hi, reader!
A daisy’s petals open at the start of the day and close at the end of the day. This is how the flower gets its name since it’s the “day’s eye”.
With that, welcome to the 72nd newsletter! This one is all about Gifts.
A listen.
Build with Clay Podcast #36 Build with Skip Lineberg - Writing Down Failures, Advice for Giving Gifts, Living Your Why, Closing the Loop
A thought.
I am a terrible gift giver.
Seriously, just ask my wife.
It’s my lowest ranked Love Language (Acts of Service is #1) and I fully admit it is something I have not put effort into improving.
Then, Skip Lineberg, host of The Main Thing Podcast, gave me and the listeners a gift on the aforementioned episode: advice on how to give an impactful gift.
Here’s how you do it.
Think, truly think, about what that person is currently pursuing or hopes to be pursuing in their life.
Then ask yourself:
What could help nudge them along the path?
What barrier could I remove for them that they didn’t even realize was there?
For example, you may know that a certain someone loves being outside. What if you got them hiking sticks? These are something they probably wouldn’t buy on their own - they aren’t a necessity. But now that they own hiking sticks, they will search for reasons to use them. Should they go on a walk? Find a trail nearby? Should their next vacation include hikes? Hopefully you’ve increased their love of the outdoors and perhaps found a new hiking buddy, too!
This is a more difficult exercise than you may think. It requires time and intentional thought. But it’s worth it, because the reward is a gift for someone you love that has lasting impact.
Who in your life can you impact with a gift?
A quote.
“It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.”
