Hi, reader!
Animal groups have some fun names. A leap of leopards. A bloat of hippos. A crash of rhinos. The most unfortunate name? An embarrassment of pandas.
With that, welcome to the 77th newsletter! This one is all about Urgency.
An image.
This is the Eisenhower Matrix - developed and used by Dwight Eisenhower.
Side note: Eisenhower’s resume is extremely impressive:
5-star general in the U.S. Army
Supreme Commander of Allied Forces during WWII
President of Columbia University
Supreme Commander of NATO
34th President of the United States
Ok, back to this matrix…
A thought.
Using the decision matrix above, I can organize my tasks and take action based on four possibilities.
Important and urgent (tasks I will do immediately)
Important, but not urgent (tasks I will schedule to do later)
Not important, but urgent (tasks I will automate/delegate to someone else)
Not important and not urgent (tasks I will eliminate)
The below image are some examples of where tasks could fit in the matrix.
Where should we spend most of our time? Green & Blue.
Where do we actually spend most of our time? Unfortunately Yellow & Orange.
What task are you prioritizing right now? Where would it be in this matrix?
A quote.
“What is important is seldom urgent and what is urgent is seldom important.”
