Hi, reader!
I love a good trivia question. So I’m going to start placing some trivia in the intro. I’ll put the answer at the bottom so you have a chance to ponder the answer. If you have any great trivia questions, share them with me and I’ll add them to a future newsletter!
Question: In 2009, what character became the first addition to Morse Code since World War II?
With that, welcome to the 84th newsletter! This one is all about Change.
A piece of paper.
You can fold a piece of paper in half 7 times. It doesn’t matter how large or thin of a piece of paper you have - you won’t get past 7*.
*Shoutout to all the competitive readers who have already grabbed a piece of paper to try and prove this theory wrong.
Let’s now envision a world where you could fold a piece of paper an infinite number of times. How many folds would it take for that piece of paper to reach the moon?
The answer?
42!
That’s right - thanks to exponential growth, 42 folds is all it takes to span the 384,000km (239,000 miles) to the moon!
A thought.
Examine the chart above.
Specifically look at the difference between fold #21 and fold #30.
It seems like there’s been no progress, right?
No change. Like, zero.
But what if we zoom in?
Look at that! The paper went from 0.2km to over 107km! That’s massive change!
Change in our own lives can often look like this.
We zoom out and feel like there is no change, no growth.
We then lose motivation and think all the previous effort was for not. ‘Ugh, why even try?!’
But this is where we need to zoom in!
We need to look for the changes that really happened. Find the growth!
What change are you trying to make? Have you zoomed in to see what’s changed?
A quote.
“Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end.”
