Hi, reader!
Trivia for today: Which bone are babies born without?
With that, welcome to the 88th newsletter! This one is all about Kids.
An article.
Having Kids by Paul Graham
At one point, Paul Graham really didn’t want kids.
Then he had kids.
This article (5 minute read) shares his musings.
And as a father of three - I found myself nodding along to all of it.
A thought.
I think about our life before we had kids.
And holy smokes we had SO MUCH TIME.
Loads and loads and LOADS of time!
When we didn’t have kids, we had so much attention to spare.
Loads and loads and LOADS of attention!
Time and attention. Our two most precious commodities. And we had them in droves.
Yet we didn’t realize it.
We actually thought we didn’t have a lot of time or attention to do anything. Too busy!
False.
To my readers who don’t have kids: Take advantage of all the time and attention you have. Believe and know you can do anything. Want to go out to dinner? Go, do it. No babysitter required! Want to stay up super late on a Friday binge watching Band of Brothers? Do it! No one is waking you up at 6:45am! Want to take off for the weekend? Perfect - no planning required!
To my readers who have young kids in the house: Your time and attention are gobbled up by your kids. Enjoy it! Life as parents won’t always be rainbows and butterflies, but this phase of life will be over before you know it, as our friends in the next tier will attest.
To my readers who have kids out of the house: You have your time and attention back! But I’m guessing you would give anything to have the chaos back for one more day.
A quote.
“One of the great things about having kids is that there are so many times when you feel there is nowhere else you'd rather be, and nothing else you'd rather be doing.”
- Paul Graham
Answer: Babies are born without kneecaps. (To be more precise…babies are born with kneecaps made entirely of cartilage, so their knees are called 'cartilage patellae' (literally cartilage kneecaps), so their kneecaps are made of different material than older children's and adult's kneecaps.)
Being a new Father, this amazing article was spot on! I found myself chuckling when reading this because we found ourselves always making excuses for not having enough time in the day and we now realize that was not true at all! However, we wouldn’t change our “time” now as parents for anything!
